What Wife Want?

I don’t like your brother“, announced my wife after a weekend visit to my brother’s house, “See, he spends all his time in the kitchen with his wife“. This has come from a woman who more than often complains, “Why don’t you learn from your brother, how much he helps his wife“. After the latest statement, I’m confused whether I should support her in the kitchen or not.

I wasn’t shocked by her comment though, because I’m being shocked and re-shocked from the day of our marriage that I have become shock-proof.

One night, shortly after our marriage, she refused to eat her dinner over a minor squabble. But, I’m not someone who will go empty stomach to bed just because there has been a fight and I started on my dinner. Just then, I heard her wailing from the bedroom and ran to her. She was in tears. I asked:

Me: “what happened now?”

She: “how can you eat when I’m not having my dinner?”

Me: *!!*? (Bewildered, searching for words)

Me: “who told you not to eat?”

She: “We had a fight and how can I have food after that?”

Me: @#$!* (pissed off)

Me: “If you don’t want to eat, don’t eat. But I want to eat”, and left the room.

Later in the night in the middle of sleep, I found her sitting on the bed. When asked she said she was feeling hungry. I cut back telling she should have taken her dinner, and for this she said;

She: “You didn’t make me eat. You should have forced me to eat – my mother always does that“.

Me: *!!*?

Though we knew each other for many years before we tied the knot, this was new for me. I started to wonder how many times I may have to force her every time she skips her food.

I thought I should ask her three times with a time gap of 10 minutes with a variation of questions like “c’mon, eat something” and after 10 minutes, “why don’t you try for my sake”, then finally with some extra sugar, “honey, you will feel tired if you don’t” and after that ? ….I would throw up my hands and say, “bull shit – I just don’t care“!!

The ‘three time’ thing did work sometimes, but more often it didn’t, and spoiled my three-time meals as well because she refused to cook!!

But as time went by I learned to respond to all the surprises she threw at me and grew up to become a good wife-manager! She has not ceased to surprise me and still sometimes leaves me looking at the sky for answers but I’m a master tactician now.

    😀

  4. Ha..haa.. Joshi this is the case with every married man i guess:-)

  5. Being a woman, a wife.. I consider these are silly silly happy moments of life.. which make you smile later.. Looks like your wife loves to get more attention and care from you (I am not saying that you are not giving it)… but these silly things everyday in fact make life blissful…

Think about your life without those silly fights on teeny weeny matters… You won’t feel life anymore..There may be a lot of things your wife has to say ‘on how she is handling some of your behaviors..’ every one is unique.. as long as we understand, learn, adjust and live.. life will be a bliss..

    May God bless!

    • I completely agree with you Nishana. Yes, without these silly silly moments life would not be interesting. I enjoy these things that’s why I have written about it.

And, Yes, she has a lot to say about my behavior too!!

  6. Nice post Joshi!…..not someone experienced……but think that an object in possession seldom retains the same charm that it had in pursuit…….From your experince I discover that marriage is a book in which the first chapter is written in poetry and the remaining chapters in prose <> 😉

  7. good wife-manager!
LOL!! im sure all “good” husbands are good wife managers too 🙂

  8. How I love this post! 😀
I see these moments happening in our lives. And you have managed to put in words, now it makes us laugh at ourselves.
    “good wife-manager!” “shock-proof.” Loved those adjectives 😀

  9. Ha how much I pity you married guys 🙂

  10. Loved it.Absolutely.
Women are very confusing right. My poor husband gives me these bewildered looks and I know I have said something contradictory. 😀
I’m sure your management skills have improved greatly.

    • Yes, I’m a super manager now!

It’s not that women are always confusing. Most of the times, it’s men who don’t have the brains to understand what women says.

  11. These tests are designed to test your capability as a loving husband. These puzzling questions are just a humble attempt on her part to keep you from vegetating. And you Joshi are supposed to rise to the occasion.

So instead of wasting your time on your blog you should be in the KITCHEN, cooking a nice meal for her!

    • Being a good wife-manager and master tactician I’m already cooking for her!! Don’t know what else I will be doing in the future.

  12. lol! 😀

First time on your blog and loved your post! 🙂

Wish you more such happy times together 😉

    • Thank you for visiting my blog. And, thanks for wishing me happy times, I have had more than enough ‘happiness’ already. May God present a lot of ‘happy times’ to you too!! haha

  13. Ha ha… I am glad things are smoother now Joshi. No pain, no gain like they say. And women are not all that paradoxical. Like you have found out, they just demand a deeper application of sense and sensibility on the part of the one who’s trying to understand them. 😀

    • Thanks for reading this post, Deboshree. Glad you liked it. Most men simply do not have the patience to apply sense and sensibility to understand a women and that’s where problem starts. Thankfully I have the patience now, or atleast I have developed a kind of numbess to all those emotional circus.

  14. Joshi, you are a wonder lah! Shockproof! Wahahaha! You shocked me with that!

Guess your wife is just another female specie in this world! Times like these will get men to think, “Why can’t a woman be more like a man!” Wakakakaka!

Way to go, dear friend! You can survive more for sure! All the best and enjoy!!

  15. Ok…that does it. I am going to remain a bachelor throughout my life.
