Deadly Mountain

When you reach the Basecamp of Annapurna in Nepal, the 10th tallest mountain on earth, and one of the 14 mountains above 8000m, the summit looks to be very close and easily attainable. It beckons you. When I showed this photo to my friend, he said, “it’s only a little bit more, you should have tried to summit”. But do I not know the perils! The calm inviting summit you see here in this photo is littered with dead bodies. This beautiful summit is the deadliest of all the mountains on earth. It’s a killer. Every year it consumes more than 5 lives, a considerable percentage of the small number of people who try to conquer it. Now, look at the summit again.
